Year 7 and 8: Spring 1: Blues Music (Homework and practical tasks)

Blues Music!!



Half term homework task: You have two weeks to complete the following research task:


1. Create an A4 research poster (written, NOT Printed unless discussed with Mrs Griffith beforehand) on BLUES MUSIC.  You can choose any aspect of The Blues that interests you.

2. Watch a video and write down TEN FACTS and include (draw or print and cut out) ONE picture on your.

Top tips for a good research task:

1.  Go on www.youtube.com and research videos about Blues music 
e.g.'short history of the blues', 'famous blues artists', 'famous female artists'. 

2. You can choose ANY part of Blues music that interest you. You can choose e.g. ' Instruments of the Blues Band', ''The origin of the blues', 'slavery and the blues',
 'blues and civil rights' or you could choose to focus on a Blues artist. Good examples are 'a short biography about Miles Davis / Robert Johnson/ B.B King/ Mahalia Jackson/Miles Davis/ Bob Dylan/ Janis Joplin/ Elvis Presley.

Prizes!! The 16 best research tasks in each year group will win a lovely Chocolate (what? Yay! :) and will be on the celebration of achievement assembly.  







Practical Task:

1. Perform the 12 Bar Blues chords.
Perform your 12 bar Blues chords with the following backing tracks:





2. Perform the Walking Bass. 
You can either perform this with a partner (One perform the chords, one perform the walking bass)


3. Improvise a Blues Melody over your 12 Bar Blues chords. 




Spring 2: Task 1 Create your own Blues band and compose your own blues piece in C major or a minor.

Spring 2: Task 2 Create an improved piece based on Hit the road Jack/Hot potato.

Your piece must have Chords, a Walking bass, a melody that improvises. You should also add vocals.





Cover work for year 7 and 8 music until 18 December (Please look carefully for the dates and which worksheets to use) Also please have children work on lined paper.
