Ukuleles!!!

Year 7 Ukuleles: Spring term 2018

Dear year 7 and 8. This term your introduction to music will begin with a term on the Ukulele.  You will have practical homework each week, make sure you do it so that you can progress in the best way!
This blog will give you all your homework, as well as other useful videos and links.

WEEKLY HOMEWORK: You must practise 5-10 MINUTES EVERY WEEK in 207 on your practical piece.
Times available to practise are:
Monday-Thursday 2.50-3.30
Tuesdays-Wednesday lunchtimes: 12.40-13.10
Wednesdays 8.15-8.30

Homework week 1:

Learn to play chords C, Am, F and for extension G. You can either practise on a ukulele at home if you have one or on one of the class ukuleles at lunch or in the mornings before school after 8.15am.

Homework week 2:

Perform the verse of Stay with Me SLOWLY by Sam Smith.  Remember to strum Up (U) or down (D) in the correct places.  It will help if you practise with a partner.

Homework week 3:

Perform the verse AND chorus of Stay With Me SLOWLY but SMOOTHLY (without hesitation).  Remember to strum correctly.

Homework week 4:

Prepare for your exam: To perform Stay With Me in your groups.

Week 5: EXAM

Week 6: Half-term homework.

Go to www.ukutabs.com and choose a song to perform for your exam in March.
1. You will only need to perform 1 verse and 1 chorus of your chosen song.
2. Your song must have 4 DIFFERENT chords.
3. Your song must have a fluent strumming pattern.
4. HINT: go on youtube for help on how to play your song well.
5. HINT: Choose wisely; some 'popular' songs often only have 2 chords, are too difficult.

Week 2: Be able to perform chords of your verse correctly and with a fluent strumming pattern.
Week 3: Be able to perform the chords of your chorus correctly and with a fluent strumming pattern.

This is your basic song that you will need to learn for your March exam.
Level 5: Be able to find chord C, Am, F and G on the Ukulele and play it.
Be able to play each chord in a smooth pattern with straight down strums in time with
               the lyrics.
Level 6: Play the chords smoothly and at a good tempo.
Add a G7 instead of an F chord.
You can tune your ukulele unaided.
Level 7: You can play Stay with me and you have started working on Ho Hey.
You can play the correct strumming pattern for Ho Hey.
You move smoothly between the C and F chord of the verse without stopping.
Level 8: You have gone on www.youtube.com or www.ukutabs.com and learnt a song of your choice after learning 'Stay with me'. This song has chords other than C,  Am, F and G.
You can play this song smoothly and sing to it (or accompany someone who sings).
